18 Bird Species at Arrowhead Marsh!
I visited Arrowhead Marsh for the first time this weekend, it was amazing! I highly recommend a visit if you haven’t been. I have been living in Oakland for 18 years and had never heard of it until I googled some bird-friendly places to visit! It’s right over by the airport, nestled between Oakland and Alameda Bay Farm. This is a beautiful park with a paved walking path and a few bridges. The path is about a mile long. I parked at the MLK Shortline parking lot and walked north towards the Arrowhead parking lot, so many birds along the water!
I arrived around 9am and it was a typical overcast morning, but I actually saw 19 bird species in about an hour and a half! I could have stayed there all day… I saw a tern flying in the air but was too slow to snap a photo, and I also saw a kingfisher that I blame my camera for not capturing on time (slow focus, ugh)!

On the way back to my car, I was surprised to see a seal!

Here’s a great egret that was wading in the water right near the parking lot – incredible that this bird oasis is literally right next to 880!
