Afternoon Birding at Elsie Roemer
I had to go back to the bird sanctuary during the day since it was so cloudy over the weekend, so I stopped by on my way home from work. It’s just so crazy that it’s about a 1-minute detour from my route home, and even just going there for 15 minutes has really helped my state of mind! It’s so peaceful and beautiful, and I am just still so happy and grateful to live in this amazing place with such incredible biodiversity.
It was pretty sunny out, and I had completely missed that there is a footpath at the far end, so that’s where I went to explore! I cannot believe I didn’t know about this before… it is incredible, and I can’t even imagine being one of the lucky people whose backyard is the bird sanctuary!
Lots and lots of birds, and so exciting to see my first long-billed curlew and avocet. I’m still adjusting to using the Nikon P1000, the mega zoom is very helpful, but it’s pretty hard to control the vibration and shake even with the vibration control on. I miss my DSLR… might be a while until I can afford a comparable lens to use with it.

Species list does not disappoint! I’m sure if I could stay longer, I would be able to spot more species…
