Amazing Day at Arrowhead!
So lucky to have an amazing day birding… dragged my kid out on a Saturday for some nature time… so good for him! We meandered around for about 2 hours and saw soooo many birds! Not necessarily so many different species but there was a huge volume of birds… more than usual.
My first featured group is ode to Buffleheads… seriously one of my favorite ducks, they are just too cute! The lighting was perfect and I got so many adorable shots bringing out the iridescence in their heads.

Moving along… all the usual suspects, except very cool to see a spotted sandpiper!

Arrowhead Marsh is so beautiful, it feels so different with the changing Oakland weather…

Birds around the arrowhead, amazing to see 4/5 types of grebes who frequent the park!

We turned right at the end of the path to head along the canal and wrap back towards the MLK parking lot… was so excited to see my first blue-winged teals! I hope someday I can get a shot of them spreading their wings!

Continuing on…. found a great egret and a green-winged teal in the little ponds across from the canal and a sparrow on the bush. I almost got excited about the Golden-crowned sparrow, from the back it looked like something new, but when I got home and downloaded I saw it was just a sparrow… oh well!!

There are two larger ponds on the right as you head back to the parking lot… these were POPPIN with ducks and gulls… insanity!!

It was a great day for birding!! So grateful for the beautiful weather in January!
