Another Starling!
Very excited to roll up to work the other day and see another starling in the trees. This was the only one… thank you to my super zoom, had to go in pretty far… it was at the very top of the tree!

Morning at Arrowhead Marsh
Met up with some friends for a quick bird walk around Arrowhead Marsh… def one of my favorite places! We weren’t there for too long, but I managed to see my first eared grebe, horned grebe, ruddy duck, and goldeneye! It always surprises me how many different birds are here, especially the ducks! Look at…

Happy Thanksgiving!
We took a short urban hike around the Emeryville Marina… happy to get our blood pumping before we went to eat dinner! I was hoping to see more birds, but oh well! Hundreds and hundreds of lesser scaup were the highlight of the walk! It can be asy to overlook all of the waders… the…

First Visit to Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline
We visited Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline for a walk… first time there, also very close to my work, so very convenient! We walked the trail around the perimeter of the park and encountered many birds! There is a disc golf course there as well… lots of shrubs and trees. There are a lot of ducks…

White-Tailed Kite
I was stopped in my tracks yesterday at Oyster Bay when I spotted a white-tailed kit hovering in mid-air! I stitched this photo together… it was so cool to witness, I feel so lucky that I got to see it, such a beautifully adorable bird!

Look Up and Zoom In!
I was leaving work today and heard some bird chatter… had to check it out! Good thing my camera zooms 3000mm because these birdies were at the very top of the trees. They looked like blackbirds from the ground, but when I zoomed in, I was pleasantly surprised to see they were starlings!!

Early Morning Ducks along the Harbor Bay Trail!
Thanks to the holiday weekend there was no traffic to get to work… I arrived 25 minutes early and decided to drive around the corner to the Harbor Bay Trail, right across the street from Peet’s roasting facility in Alameda. The ducks were pretty far away, so I had to use my super zoom, but…

Sunset at Elsie Roemer
I couldn’t resist a quick stop by Elsie Roemer on my way home from work… arrived right at golden hour! The lighting was so different and dramatic than yesterday, and there soooo many peeps! Something I’ve been wracking my brain on the last few days has been the difference in identifying sandpipers, sanderlings, dunlin, plovers,…

Afternoon Birding at Elsie Roemer
I had to go back to the bird sanctuary during the day since it was so cloudy over the weekend, so I stopped by on my way home from work. It’s just so crazy that it’s about a 1-minute detour from my route home, and even just going there for 15 minutes has really helped…

First Visit to Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary
We stopped by the Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary at the end of Alameda Beach over the weekend, hung out on the birding deck. I didn’t have too much time, and it was super overcast and gray, but 30 minutes was enough to see a great diversity of birds! Couldn’t help myself but bring along my…
